The structure of a tractor is roughly the same as that of a truck. It consists of engine, chassis, car body (or cab) and electrical equipment. Because of the need for towing operation and other reasons, some assemblies and components of tractors are not exactly the same as those of ordinary trucks, especially semi-trailers and tractors used in the field.
1. General layout of chassis: Compared with ordinary trucks, the wheelbase of tractor is shorter, and the main load is concentrated near the traction seat.
2. Transmission system: The transmission system of a tractor is similar to that of an ordinary truck, but a hydraulic coupler and a hydraulic torque converter will be arranged between the clutch and the transmission to ensure a stable start. Because heavy tractors need more driving force, these models are often equipped with two-stage main reducers, and even some models are equipped with wheel side reducers to provide more traction.
3. Braking system: The braking system of a tractor is basically the same as that of an ordinary truck, but the difference is that there are pneumatic connectors such as pneumatic brake pipeline, emergency brake pipeline and start control pipeline for transmitting compressed air to the trailer, and an additional hand brake is also set in the cab, which can directly brake the trailer. In order to balance braking, the rear axle of some tractors is also equipped with a load sensing valve to enable them to have similar braking force and maneuverability under different loads.
4. Suspension: The suspension system of tractor comes from ordinary trucks. In order to improve performance, some models use independent suspension or larger leaf springs. The parabolic leaf spring suspension is used in almost all rear axle models.
5. Frame: The frame of semi-trailer tractor is shorter than that of ordinary truck, but in order to improve the load and enhance the safety, the frame of tractor is wider and thicker than that of ordinary truck to provide higher rigidity. There are also more beams to carry heavier trailers.
6. Driving system: semi-trailer tractor with traction seat bearing capacity exceeding 16T, and the driving system is developed as a special component.
7. Electrical system: There will be a set of accessories with seven-level electrical connectors at the rear of the tractor, which can transmit electrical signals to the trailer.
